Lab Setup & Equipment
The lab currently houses 20 networked computers, a color laser printer, scanners, a projector and a SmartBoard. In addition, a rolling lab of 12 laptops is available to teachers for use in the classroom. Kindergarten and first grade students visit the lab biweekly, while second, third, and fourth graders visit weekly. Students complete both individual and cooperative projects throughout the year. Benches, rather than chairs, are used to help facilitate sharing and partnership. Fourth graders also visit the lab for keyboard instruction three times a week. The program Type to Learn 3 teaches and drills the keystrokes for the alphabet, numeral, and punctuation in a sequential manner. Each lesson introduces an average of two keys per lesson. Students also continue to practice keystrokes from prior lessons in each lesson for better retention.
