"Mrs. Peck's "Physics Is Everywhere" Project

Why: 1. To understand that everything you "do", experience, hear, or observe involves Physics.
  2. Enable the student to convey to the teacher that they understand a Physic's concept without the use of a pen & paper test. The student determines how they will be assessed while meeting the teacher's criteria. This is based upon Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory.

Who: You may do this project by yourself or with a partner (partner must be in Mrs. Peck's physic's class).

When: This is a quarterly project due towards the end of the quarter .

What: 1. Any physics concept may be used including topics that we have not covered in class.
  2. You must thoroughly convey to Mrs. Peck & the class that you understand the basic physic's behind any topic.
  3. You will present your project to the class.

How: 1. Must include a clever title and the student's name (exception: if it will be on the internet...first name and last name initial)
  2. Your image must be used demonstrating you "experiencing" the physics concept unless your project is video, demonstration, or presentation....then you are the "image"
  3. Your description of the physics is accurate, thorough, and includes figures, data tables, graphs, or diagrams . (used as visuals during speech)
  4. All items must be neatly made and contain no spelling or grammatical mistakes. You are allowed to use computer generated images.
  5. Practice the presentation you will give to the class; teaching them about your concept.

Ideas: Photo Journal: poster board w/ photos Student(s) performing a song, dance, cheer ect.
Write an Essay with accompanying photo Student(s) performing a skit
Create a Video Create a 3D structure: piece of artwork or an object (catapult, car/ramp, rocket)
Create a diorama Create a Power Point Project
Create a mobile Create a Web Site
Create a game Demonstrate a physics concept "how something works" to the class
Internet resources on Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory
Dr. Howard Gardner, professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education
Dr. Armstrong is a world reknown writer & speaker on education. This site gives numerous examples of the different types of intelligences. He explains how each type can be used to learn the same concept through the concept of the economic law of supply and demand.
This article was written by Mark Smith in 2002 and is an objective overview of the Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
This site has additional links that explain each of the 7 intelligences in more detail.

This site includes a description of all 9 types of intelligences. Gardner has subsequently added to his original 7 types of intelligences.
