Course Title: Geometry
Section: 220-3
Objectives:
Geometry provides students with experiences that deepen the understanding of two or three-dimensional objects and their properties. Deductive and inductive reasoning as well as investigative strategies in drawing conclusions are stressed. Properties and relationships of geometric objects include the study of : 1) Points, lines, angles and planes; 2) polygons, with a special focus on quadrilaterals, triangles, right triangles; 3) circles; and 4) polyhedron and other solids. An understanding of proof and logic is developed. It also includes an introduction to trigonometry and analytic geometry. Use of graphing calculators and Geometer’s Sketchpad software is required.
Methods:
Methods used in this class will be lecture, note taking from board, Smart-board instruction, cooperative learning, use of manipulatives, Sketchpad labs and discussions, etc.
Assessment Procedures:
Students will be assessed in the area of performance on tests, quizzes, projects and Sketchpad labs.
Resources Used:
Text: Discovering Geometry, by Michael Serra, Key Curriculum Press
Other resources: The Geometer’s Sketchpad and T1-83 plus calculator.
