Course Title: Stat and Probability
Section: 270-1
Objectives:
For students to learn about statistical ideas and their impact on everyday life, public policy, and many different fields of study. Statistical ideas will be presented in four parts.
I. Producing Data
II. Organizing Data
III. Probability
IV. Inference
Methods:
We will use our book to supplement many experiments, projects, and activities that let students experience the concepts we are studying first hand.
Assessment Procedures:
Homework, quizzes, tests, and projects all will be graded. Tests are all 100 points and we will have 3-4 of these each quarter. Homework is 5 points for each collected assignment. Usually 2-3 times per week. Quizzes and projects will have varying point values.
Resources Used:
Our text is, Statistics Through Applications, written by
Daniel Yates, Daren Starnes, and David Moore.
Graphing calculator.
Computer lab, especially to access the books website and data sets.
Content and Pacing:
Semester I- Chapters 1-6 which covers Producing and Organizing Data
Semester II- Chapters 7-10 which covers Probability and Inference
If time allows we will also do a unit on personal finance.
