Fourth Grade Language Arts

Language arts is comprised of reading, spelling, vocabulary, and writing and is integrated across the curriculum.

• Voices, a Balanced literacy program, has been adopted to supplement our reading and language arts curriculum.
• Through our social studies program, which is based on a non-traditional textbook, we are able to teach reading comprehension, reading strategies, study skills, and literary analysis.

• In fourth grade children are exposed to a workshop approach to writing, as well as the six traits method of editing and revising, which builds on what has been taught in the earlier grades. Emphasis is placed on the writing of various genres in addition to writing in all curriculum areas.
