Curriculum
The Shorecrest Kindergarten Curriculum is a
hands-on program that promotes students' learning through a variety
of challenging, interesting and fun activities that are integrated
across the curriculum. Here is a list of the basic skills and
concepts that are presented to the class during their year in
kindergarten:
Language
and Literacy
- Identify, write, and sequence the
alphabet
- Identify and use consonant letter sounds and
rhymes
- Read and write sight vocabulary
words
- Read and write sentences, books, and
stories
- Read individually, with partners and with
other grade levels
- Listen to stories, poems, and
directions
Math
- Sort, graph, and classify by color, shape,
size, and other attributes
- Count forward and back, count sets, and by
skip counting
- Read, write, and count over 100
- Addition and subtraction are
introduced
- Create a variety of patterns
- Measure length, area, weight, capacity, time,
money, and temperature
Science
- Explore our five senses
- Learn about the weather and the four
seasons
- Compare animals and how they live: pets, farm,
woodland, ocean, zoo, insects, and birds
- Find out about our bodies and good
health
- Learn about plants and taking care of our
world
- Visit our Science Activity Center

Social Studies
- Learn about our school, school rules, and its personnel

- Learn about yourself, personal information,
favorites, feelings, family, responsibilities, and
manners
- Explore holidays and traditions
- Find out about our country and study current
events
- Compare city life, buildings, workers, and
transportation
