Student progress is monitored on an ongoing basis. The children are assessed both individually and as part of the class. Assessments are informal and use familiar manipulatives and activities which evaluate each student's level. In addition, samples of student work are collected throughout the year.
Parent/Teacher Conferences- Each child's progress is reported to the parents both in October and in the winter at scheduled conferences. Additional conferences can be requested, either by the teacher or the parents, as needed.
Report Cards-Written report cards for each kindergarten student are mailed out February and June. These reports include both grades and written comments regarding each child's development in various skill areas.
Grading-The grading system used to assess the children's progress for each skill area is the following:
1- Surpasses expectations (The child can apply the skill correctly and independently at a higher level.)
2- Meets expectations (The child is continuing to develop this skill area.)
3- Needs improvement (The child needs more instruction and practice of the concept to perform at the expected level.)
