Our Philosophy

The Shorecrest kindergarten philosophy is based on the premise that every child is an individual - developing at different rates mentally, emotionally, physically, and socially. Children learn best in a "child-centered environment" through an integrated curriculum offered at varying levels. Such a curriculum maintains a balance among large group, small group, and individual activities; a balance in content areas; a balance between work and play; as well as a balance between teacher-directed and child-initiated experiences. Students learn best in a stimulating environment where they are actively engaged in challenging activities with a caring faculty. Young children learn through active, hands-on teaching methods, not by sitting still doing worksheets. Play is a fundamental means by which children gather and process information, learn new skills, and practice old ones.
