Second Grade

Monsters, Monsters Everywhere!
Officially a 2nd grade tradition, second graders exchanged their monsters with four first grade classes at an American school in Shanghai. The Monster Project encourages the development of reading and writing skills while integrating technology into the classroom. Using monsters as a vehicle, students exchange written descriptions via this wiki, and then recreate their partner's monster without ever looking at the "real thing". During the project, students create, discuss, describe, interpret, analyze, organize and assess their monsters as well as the monsters of their peers.

Asia Wiki
Second graders at Shorecrest have spent the year studying the seven continents. For their final continent study on Asia, they used a wiki (a collaborative Website where all students can contribute) to record information they learned about the geography, people & culture, economy & government, and history of fifteen different countries. The wiki was also used to learn more about 2nd grade students at an American school in Malaysia.

Alliteration Slideshow
In conjunction with their program “A Small Part of the World,” each student was challenged to write an alliterative sentence reflective of a country from around the world. The sentences are creative and the illustrations amazing. Look carefully in each picture for the hidden country flag!

Mrs. Graham’s Podcasts
Each student in Mrs. Graham’s recorded a podcast of a favorite writing piece.

Spanish VoiceThread
In a joint project between the Spanish and Computer classes, second graders wrote sentences using shape, number and color words in Spanish class. They then visited the lab to type and illustrate them on the computer. Finally, they recorded themselves reading their sentences back in the Spanish classroom.
