Oceanography is the name given to the type of work done to further expand our knowledge of the ocean's mysterious ways. An oceanographer is person who applies physics, chemistry, biology and geology, to the study of the worlds oceans. It's not just the water which is studied but all the animals and creatures which live in the ocean as well. From the smallest properties of the water itself to the largest animals in the ocean.

You're probably wondering how this effects every day life. Well due partially to oceanographers, we can now predict future changes in the planets temperature. This leads to changes in sea levels and also allows us to avoid storms and hurricanes like the most recent, Charley. Now aren't you glad that there's oceanographers around today!

There are a couple types of oceanographers: Physical, Chemical, Marine, and Geological. Physical look at temperature, density, tides and currents; Chemical, on the other hand, look at the chemistry of living systems, and age of the sea. Marine biologist study marine animals and plants while Geological oceanographers examine rocks and minerals.
