Marine Biology is a career that involves studying the ecology and life of marine environments such as oceans, lakes, and ponds. Although this profession allows for many rewarding experiences within the marine world, the path leading up to this takes a lot of hard work, which is why an individual must have a great interest in the field before pursing it. Having done extensive research on this profession, I have found that many marine biologists feel that during the years of high school and college, it is important to take every science and math course possible before pursuing a degree. Some even suggested taking courses in computers and speech, in order to advance largley needed skills. |
| Also, it is in the best
interest of the aspiring to keep their options open before focusing on
one particular field and understand that marine biology is a career of
diverse opportunities. In order to become a marine biologist, you must
go through two years for a master’s degree and another six years
for a PhD. While in pursuit of degrees, many marine biologists feel that
it is important to receive experience both in the lab and in the field.
Having a summer and weekend job in a biology lab is as good as taking
a few college courses and also looks good on a resume when looking for
a job after graduation. |

As a marine biologist, you observe and investigate how marine organisms: grow and develop, relate with each other, and adapt to and interact with the environment. Through observation and investigation, biologists are able predict how different extremes in environmental conditions will effect a marine ecosystem and then determine the best methods of protecting and managing marine organisms, whether they be plant or animal. |

| These skills open doors to many different work places, such as: private research facilities, aquariums, universities, environmental protection agencies, even consulting companies. Independent studies of particular marine animals can lead you on rewarding trips around the world in search for your subject matter. For anyone who has a love and passion for the marine world along with will and determination achieve their goals, a career in marine biology will be perfect for you. |
