The Study of Natures only Cartilaginous Fish

Shark are classified in class Chondrichthyes. There are two sub classes because of the amount of spp, Elasmobranchii and Holocephali. Subclass Elasmbranchii includes our most common cartilaginous fish such as sharks and rays. This include 13 orders: Hexanchiformes Heterodontiformes Lamniformes Orectolobiformes Carcharhiniformes Squaliformes Pristiophoriformes Squaliformes Pristiophoriformes Rajiformes Rhinobatiformes Torpediniformes Myliobatiformes The second Class Holocephali includes 1 order: Chimaeriformes |
The habitat of sharks
includes tropical and temperate seas along with the
very cold polar regions. Sharks have adapted to
many different aquatic habitats as all other fish
have. Some species inhabit the shallow coastal
area's, deep-water and or ocean floor, and also the
open ocean. Unfortunately the migration of
sharks is still kind of a mystery to us. But in the
species that do migrate it depends of food
availability, environment cycles, or reproductive
cycles. With the short amount we know, we do know
that the females of most species lay their eggs in
specific regions and raise their
pups. |
