| The relationship between people and mangroves is generally a win-win situation. The mangroves are important parts of the ecosystem, one of the major factors that mangroves are storm buffers and help prevent erosion on our beaches and coastal areas. Also, mangroves are homes to many endangered animals (mostly in more asian tropical areas) such as sea tutles. In turn, there are many rules and regulations about cutting down mangroves. |

Unfortunately, the mangroves do not completely benefit from human "help". Pollution like oil spills and littering and deforestation for more land can hurt and destroy the mangroves in our areas. To the left, the black on the stems is actual oil spill damage. |
