and lands low specific heat capacity help explain the development of
sea and land breezes. |

Because
of water's high specific heat capacity, the Gulf Stream is still relatively
warm off the European coast. This greatly influences Europe's winter
climate which is much milder than that of Northern Canada located on
the same 45 degree latitude line. |

| Water
has a higher heat capacity than solid earth, so temperature changes
(night minus day) in the ocean are less than on land. Note: about the scale: above white is above 1 kelvin in temp change. Below white is below negative 1 kelvin temp. change. The color white indicates no change in temperature from day to night. |
