Seagrass is one of the most important plants on earth. It is the basis for many important ecosystems. Seagrass is the only type of marine flowering plant. Meadows of these plants are commonly found in shallow coastal marine locations, reef tops, and estuaries. They spend almost their entire life submerged by seawater. Seagrass is important because it provides food and shelter for many marine organisms such as shrimp and anemones. It is found all over the world and there are 60 different species.
