Shrimp are small marine crustaceans with 10 jointed legs on the thorax, well-developed swimmerets on the abdominal segments, and possess laterally compressed body. Shrimp differ from their close relatives, the lobsters and crabs, for the fact they are primarily swimmers rather than crawlers. Shrimp are widely distributed throughout temperate tropical salt- and freshwaters. They may grow to be as long as 9 inches.
