Flounder swimming along the ocean floor


The flounder is a flat fish that spends most of its time on the ocean bottom. Most of the largest flounder can be caught in north Florida. The peak of flounder season is in the fall. The flounder is nicknamed the "doormat." They are found in the flats and they burry themselves in the sand and they take on the same color as their environment. To catch flounder you want to use bottom rigs since they are bottom-dwellers.
