General Info on Jacks

 

Anatomy/Morphology The distinct features of adult Jack is the dark black spot on its pectoral fin. Also another distinguishing feature is the patch of scales between the pelvic fins.Juveniles have 5 black lines on their bodies and they are present until they reach adulthood.
Reproduction The time when Jack reproduce is early March to early September. Their spawning usually occurs offshore on the Atlantic coast or the Gulf Stream which are both subtropical environments which the Jack like.
Feeding The Jacks usually feed in packs so they can ambush smaller prey however bigger and older Jacks usually hunt by themselves. Jacks eat almost anything they can catch that is smaller than them. Juvenile Jack usually eat small shrimp or minnows.
