Adaptations for Survival

A whale spy-hopping to check out its surroundings.

Killer Whales have developed many different ways to survive. They have echolocation, and one blowhole opening as do other odontocetes (toothed whales). They form social groups that are stable and last for extended periods of time. The whales hunt cooperatively in groups in order to capture their food. They have developed a thick layer of blubber in order to remain warm in the northern latitudes. They also share a streamlined body with flippers and a fluke for locomotion with other odontocetes. Killer whales are not hunted by any predators because they are so high on the food chain.
