Map of Greenland from United Nations Environment Program

Greenland is the worlds largest island located between the Arctic ocean and the Northern Atlantic Ocean. According to the United Nations Environment Program, Greenland is about 81% ice-capped. The same effects that are happening in the Arctic and the Antarctic are occuring in Greenland. The island is warming at a much higher rate then the rest of the world. Many residents are now beginning to grow crops and raise livestock because of the temperature increases.

According to NASA, 11 cubic miles of ice has melted along Greenland's coasts. This accounts for 7% of the annual global sea level rise. Measurements over the last century suggest that sea level has risen 9 inches, enough to cause flooding on Greenland's coasts. Scientists believe that once the permanent ice has melted it will not reform.
