Have you ever wondered what color the blood in your veins is? Is it blue? Well, it’s actually red.

The relative absence or presence of oxygen is what determines the ‘color’ of your blood. Another important factor to the color of your blood is hemoglobin, because of its high iron content. If you have look at rock formations like the ones in the grand canyons they have a high content of iron and in turn they are red. It’s the same thing with your blood. When oxygenated hemoglobin is a bright red color so in the arteries the blood is a bright red color. The blood in your veins has very little oxygen and thus it has a much darker color red. The blue tint you see has to do with the refraction of light on your skin, which causes your veins to be a bluish-green color
