EGG DROP EGGSTRAVAGANZA

Will the eggs break?

The Purpose:
The goal of this activity is to create an egg case of 2 kg that will increase the time of impact and to decrease the force of impact so that the egg will not break.
Description of My Egg Case:
My egg case is made of a shoebox consisting of a small towel in the bottom with a layer of 1.5 inch sponges on top of the towel. On the two sides of the box there are 2 10 fluid ounce water bottles (filled) to add weight. The egg will be placed in the middle and a layer of sponges and a towel will be placed on top. In addition to the water bottle I had to add a rock for extra weight on top.

Did My Egg Break?

My egg did not break because my case provided a lot of cushioning which lessened the amount of force put on the egg when it hit the ground. The lessened force makes it more likely for the egg to remain in tact. The egg case weighing 2 kg's allowed the possibility to increase the time of impact and provide a better chance for the egg to keep from breaking.

What Changes Would I Make In My Design?
There are a few changes I could make to improve my design. First of all I could make the weight more centralized rather than having more weight on one
side. This would have helped to have the case land flat rather than on it's side and having the egg stay in its same position rather than landing on its side. I would also choose to make my box bigger so that I would have more space to provide more cushions and protect the egg.
