Egg Drop Eggstravaganza

By Jillian K.

OUR EGG CASE:

Our egg case was a shoe box filled with felt material, a towel, and two sponges. The egg was then placed in between the two sponges with the felt on the bottom and the towel on the top. Our egg case was successful, because the egg did not break when it was being dropped off the bleachers.

GOAL:

The goal of this physics project was to create an egg case that will increase the time of impact and decrease the force of impact so that the egg will not break.

SCIENCE:

Our egg didn't break because of the amount of pressure that was applied by the cushions which therefore lessened the amount of force exerted on the egg once it hit the ground. The impact of time increased while the force of time decreased.

REFLECTION ON DESIGN:

There are many things I would do to improve my design, but there are two factors in particular that I would change. I would use a corregated box because since it has triangles along the edges, it decreases the force of impact. I would also use packing peanuts to protect the egg from harm.
