Newton's 3rd Law says for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Whenever one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body exerts an equal and opposite on the first. It means there are two forces participating on the two object. An example is a rocket. The action would the gas going down and then the reaction would be the rocket going up. Another example could be a car on the road. The size for the force of the road is equivalent to the force on the wheels. The direction of the road is backwards and is opposite direction of the wheels, which is going forward. So, just like Newton said, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. So, the wheels and the road are equal in force but they have an opposite reaction. |
