Newton’s First Law of Motion states, that, “An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion at constant velocity (the speed and direction of the object is not changing) until it is acted on by an unbalanced force.” The law also says that no force is needed to maintain an object's motion. Newton goes even further to explain inertia and equilibrium. Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist acceleration. Equilibrium is the state of complete balance in any object. If an object becomes a state of complete equilibrium, then it will not be accelerating at all, the object will be at rest or at a constant velocity. If an object is at rest than it is not moving in any direction, at any speed, and is in a state of equilibrium.

These motorcycles are moving at a constant velocity, and will never change that velocity unless it is acted in by an outside force. |

This roller coster will never stop until inertia is used to stop it at the end of this ride |
According to Newton’s First Law, a ball that is moving north at 5m/s/s will not change its speed or direction unless acted upon by an outside force. So, the ball will keep going on forever until it his a wall or some other force. If the ball does hit a wall then its speed and direction will instantaneously change.
