Newton's Law of Inertia |
| In Mrs. Peck's class, the students were learning about inertia which is an object's resistance to change its motion. If an object is already at rest, then it "wants" to remain at rest. The more mass an object has; the more inertia it has and the more it resists changing its state of motion (at rest). We performed the death defying feat of the "Table Cloth Trick" to observe Newton's 1st Law of Motion. |
| The idea of inertia was first experienced with the "how many coins on the elbow can you catch? activity". Then we moved up to the really difficult inertia activity...."The table cloth trick". This was performed using beakers with varying amounts of water resting on top of sheets of paper. Obviously we performed our tricks outside. (Mrs. Peck has learned the hard way to do this activity outside!) |
