Course Title: Crestviews
Section: 905-1
Objectives:
The Crestviews program purpose is to produce the school's annual. In addition this course will teach desktop publishing, teach photoshop skills, build teamwork and leadership skills and teach the students how to plan their time, work independently and achieve a product at the end of the year.
Methods:
Using Adobe Photoshop CS3, InDesign CS3 and Microsoft Word, students learn the elements of design and publishing using computers, digital cameras and scanners.
Assessment Procedures:
Students are graded on their writing, timing and completion of two page spreads. Several two page spreads are assigned to be completed each quarter and one to two pieces of writing must be included with each two page spread. Editors, who have taken the course at least once before are assessed as to how well they check their staff's work.
Resources Used:
Herff Jones templates for each page, which are blank pages where students add their designs are provided by the company. Projecting award winning designs through the computer allows for presentation of page elements and introduction to publishing vocabulary. Power point presentations of proper journalistic grammar and practices help to enhance lessons.
Content and Pacing:
Quarter 1
Editors will complete templates of their designs and create the year's files. New students will learn the basic element of design. Cut and paste together a two page spread, and then learn how to create their design on the computer. The first two page spread completed for the book will be a senior page.
Quarter 2
